Beginning her yoga journey as a teen in 2007, Alexandra Mae quickly realized that yoga is so much more than a means to gain strength and flexibility. The practice complimented and enhanced her spiritual journey, and became an essential tool to help manage stress, anxiety, and the physical discomforts of having an autoimmune condition.
While in grad school for counseling psychology, she found so much overlap with her mindfulness training used with therapy clients and the breath work and body awareness used in various yoga practices. Wanting to dive deeper into yogic principles to enhance her own practice as well as to help clients, she completed the 200hr yoga teacher training at Yoga Loka in Reno, NV with Kim Orenstein and fell in love with teaching.
Now, she utilizes both her formal counseling education and yoga training to help others reach their emotional and physical health goals. She is passionate about making yoga, meditation, and coaching accessible to all who might otherwise be intimidated about starting the journey. Drawing from her own chronic illness journey, her work and study in mental health, and drive to empower communities of color, Alexandra aims to cultivate a true sense of safety and belonging in her classes and sessions. Her teaching and coaching style emphasizes stress reduction, body awareness, and the power of mindful breath. She is so grateful to share this practice with others.
Alexandra has a B.A in Africana Studies and Psychology, a M.S. in Psychology, RYT yoga certified, and is a certified Reiki practitioner.
